Blogging takes a lot of time and consideration, and we must confess that we have neglected it horribly since the newest addition to our family was born! Please rest assured, we are still slowly turning over orders and definitely in consistent operation. We're not pumping out the awesome quite as quickly as we were, but things are starting to fall into place slowly but surely!

The best places to find us and keep in touch are:

I&P on FACEBOOK - This is the BEST place to keep up on us. We post a constant trickle of the dreads we're creating, advertise sales, special offers, etsy codes and contests/giveaways, and link up to other awesome dread artists!

I&P on TUMBLR - This is kind of where we've relocated the "blog" aspect. We suck at keeping up over there, too. When we do post though, it's total art porn for your eyes. ;)

I&P on ETSY - If we have any pre-made and Ready-to-ship dreads, this is where you'll find them! Usually this is where we offer custom packages as well. Currently we're not keeping the shop stocked as we can only fill our wait list up to a certain extent before it becomes overwhelming, and we're constantly initiated with emails for custom orders as it is. Please feel free to email us if you're interested in a custom order and don't see what you're looking for!

Tons of love to all our supporters. We appreciate you so much! Imp And Petalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04510913132257737061noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4563994614081707154.post-52386308816411380622012-03-26T14:24:00.003-07:002012-03-26T14:42:42.590-07:00Kicking off Spring with a Logo Contest!
Hey Imp And Petal fans! We don't cater primarily to any one genre of dreadsters. In fact, we do a whole lot more than just synth dreads. We can create badass hair and accessories to go with ANYTHING from your meticulously planned Comic Con costume, Summer Festival statement-concepts, Neon club-gear, Off-kilter wedding look, or the Perfect Persona-Enhancing Rock-the-Stage ensemble.

Though the facebook page is largely based around Petal (Kristina) and her dread-work, Imp (Jeff) pops his mischievous head in every so often and creates a line of byzantine jewelry for us, among other things. Head over to the Etsy shop or Imp And Petal blog and get familiar with us if you think it will help inspire. We prefer dreads to play a very major role in the design, but if you think you've got wilder ideas, by all means go for it!

We love edgy, grungy, playfully seductive, colorful, and unique designs. Feel free to use our many galleries for inspiration, and you are always welcome to pick our brains if you have any questions that might help you get inspired.

Bonus points if you use Either of our likenesses to influence your designs. Photos can be provided, if you're having trouble tracking some down.

Basically, we want to see how you view our business through your art, and then we want you to turn up the volume! We want something eye-catching!

You are free to either incorporate our business name in to your design, or leave it to us to work it in. Please do make sure it will fit in seamlessly if you do leave that part up to us!

The tricky stuff -

*Designs should be created in a format/resolution that can easily be resized and retain clarity.

Logo may or may not be used for:

- Etsy banner (760 x 100 pixels)

- Etsy icon (75 x 75 pixels)

- FB Header/Icon

- Business cards

- Letter Heads

- Blog Header

- Web Buttons

- Other Promotional Materials. Ideally, I would love to be able to blow it up to at least an nice clear 8x10 in the event of using a booth-banner.

*Designs should also be bold and simple enough to pack a (recognizable!) punch as icons for Facebook and Etsy. If you'd like to create separate but cohesive designs, or even just use specific elements of your original design for these, please feel free!

The legal stuff -

By submitting designs you are relinquishing any rights to use them elsewhere.

You will of course retain rights of use for your personal portfolios, and if in the event you are NOT the winner of this competition and would like permission to use your design in a different way, I am definitely open to discussion on what changes could be made to allow us both to be comfortable and happy!

The winning logo will for all intents and purposes belong to Imp And Petal indefinitely.

HOW TO ENTER:

1. Make sure you've 'liked' Imp And Petal on facebook

2. Email a watermarked version of your design to ImpAndPetal [at] live.com, including your full name & business name (if you have one), and a link to galleries or a place we can view more of your art! Please let us know if you're willing to alter your design if it's "almost perfect" for us, or if it's a done deal.

3. Wait for us to upload your entry into a special album on our page, and then make sure all your friends know about it!

'Likes' on your entries count as votes. For those of us on this side of the globe it's just about festival season. I hope everyone is planning epic adventures that involve equally epic hair!

Our new addition, Baby Logan, joined us on April 25th, and we have been taking it easy and enjoying him since! It's been amazing watching him grow so quickly. Mama's very excited to be easing back in to work, for sure.

Keep an eye on Etsy and our Facebook page to grab pre-made dread kits and custom slots as they open up!Imp And Petalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04510913132257737061noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4563994614081707154.post-86650106443154186632011-03-02T08:55:00.001-08:002011-03-02T10:54:01.252-08:00Hello, Imp and Petal fans!

Spring is right around the corner, and with that comes many new things!

First and foremost, our latest addition to the I&P fam will be joining us in May in the form of a hopefully happy and healthy little baby boy. We are sooooo excited!
Imp has been working sooo hard at transforming the studio into a nursery-themed shared space where Mama and baby can co-exist for the next year, and he's doing a gorgeous job. :D

In business-related news, Imp And Petal is completely booked up through may for custom dread orders. We apologize for any inconvenience this brings you guys, but our awesomeness unfortunately brings on high demand. :P We will be filling these orders, and then taking a short break while we feel out the changes of new parenting. When free time eases up just a little, we'll be taking on custom orders again on a case-by-case basis. The VERY BEST way to snag a spot while its open is to keep a close watch on our facebook fan page!
Hopefully we should be taking on new orders by July.

Meanwhile, we hope to come up with a few super fun pre-made options for your purchasing pleasures to tide you dread-junkies over. Keep checking out the Etsy shop for new stuff!

Also, check out the latest Imp And Petal Photo Shoot (teaser pictured above) on the Facebook page!Imp And Petalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04510913132257737061noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4563994614081707154.post-31418309035449681872011-01-10T15:58:00.000-08:002011-01-10T16:02:49.222-08:00New Accent Kits Available!
Check out the new accent kits listed on Etsy!

Imp And Petalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04510913132257737061noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4563994614081707154.post-56409011066802469192011-01-06T09:04:00.000-08:002011-01-06T10:16:16.876-08:00Back in Business!Imp And Petal is BACK IN BUSINESS for 2011!

We know you missed us. :P

The Etsy shop is once again up and running, and our Facebook Page has many more members and is becoming much more interactive!

You may have noticed a few changes, and we'd like to explain them here.
First, our shipping prices have gone up, both locally and internationally. We decided to do this firstly because we are now taking further precautions with our packaging, to avoid any future mishaps with what I'm going to unceremoniously refer to as the Not at all Careful Postal Service.
Also, customs checks in and out of the US have been upped considerably, and since we sell an uncommon and usually shaped product it seems packages of this nature are more likely to be targeted for customs searches. To minimize any confusion, we're going to start exclusively using USPS issued packaging, which while free to use often weighs in a little higher.
We apologize for any inconvenience this might be to our clients, but are hoping it will be worth it in the long run with quicker shipping times and a product that arrives in pristine condition!

Another thing we've tweaked slightly is the package deal for dread kits. We've put a few limitations on "special effects" dreads included, and are now offering an unlimited amount of blended dreads (within the color allotment) at no extra charge! We are also considering writing up some different package deals including different styles of dreads, to make narrowing down exactly what you're looking for a little bit easier. :P

On the list of To-Do's for January/February:

Filming our OWN instructional installation and other how-to videos, and offering them in DVD format to purchase if you wish. Links to web-based videos will still of course be free of charge!

More pre-made falls and accent kits

Cyberlox Falls!

Updating our color charts to include the SWEET new selections from IKS

...and of course, doing anything we can to keep our fans stylin' and happy. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for us!!!

Hope everyone had a great holiday,
now let's start rocking 2011 <span Don’t scratch! You may further irritate your skin. They itch. All extensions itch. We’re just willing to put up with it for the sake of fabulous hair!! Fortunately there are a few things you can do to keep from going completely mad.

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" > 1. The biggest cause of itchies is shampoo residue. When your hair is sectioned off the way it is, it makes it very difficult to shed normally, which created a mild matting effect at the root of the installation. If excess soap builds up in that tiny sponge of hair, it can be super irritating to your scalp. Just rinse extra, extra thoroughly and cut down on the number of shampoos to avoid this.

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" > 2. Tea tree or Eucalyptus oils dabbed on with a q-tip can bring amazing relief, but make sure your skin isn’t broken ahead of time, and be sure to dilute first if your skin is super sensitive. Learned that one the hard way, myself. Feel the burn!

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" > 3. Often times, the itch is merely caused by sweat drying on your skin. Hop in the shower and give yourself a cool rinse, and it’ll probably do the trick.

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:12pt;" >..::INSTALLATION REMOVAL::..

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >After 6-8 weeks, you’ll have enough grow out that you’ll be ready to re-tighten. A lot of folks will say you can leave them in longer (I’ve done it myself!) but I can confidently say that through years of experience I’ve learned this is the ideal amount of time to prevent excess matting at the root (which can be very tricky to detangle) and unsightly grow out. Not to mention, after two months you’ll probably be dying to enjoy the orgasmic experience of a proper scrub of the hair and scalp!

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >1. Very simply snip the band at the end of your braids (being very, very careful not to snip your hair or the extension) and unbraid! You may want to keep your tail comb handy to help you pick apart any tricky braids. Carefully work out any knots with a comb, working from the ends of your hair to the scalp. A little leave-in conditioner may be used to help you. You’ll have to use your own discretion.

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >3. Don’t be alarmed when it looks like you’re suddenly losing all your hair. Remember, you’ve not been able to shed normally, so the 100 or so hairs that should be naturally detaching from your head daily, are all being combed out at once. Your hair will feel very flat for a few days, but unless you have large portions of scalp showing through, you should be fine!

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:14pt;" >

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:12pt;" >..::WASHING AND MAINTAINENCE::..

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:11pt;" >1. And of course, to our handful of Aussie fans: we hope your winter is swell as well. :D Things are going great here at I&P headquarters, we've been exceptionally busy (especially with synthetic dread kits!) and trying to pack as much summer fun in to the mix as we possibly can! Hiking, Picnics, Camping and Swimming, all of course with our little niece in tow. We're having a blast!

Also, Imp And Petal is a proud new member of the Etsy Dark Side Team!
Check out some of the team's listings by searching for the tag "EtsyDarkTeam"!
Dates to be aware of:

Petal will be taking a short trip to SAN FRANSISCO to see Wicked from August 2-5! It will be her very first Broadway experience and she is suuuuper excited. The laptop will be dragged along as well so emails etc. will still be up and running, and she'll probably make the housekeepers hate her by getting synthetic hair all over the room as well (but no worries, a hefty tip will be left behind with the mess).
Both Imp AND Petal will be celebrating 2 years of marriage by taking a 10 day vacation from September 6th - September 16th. There's a really good chance Petal will buckle from lack of work and get crackin' again early, but as of right now we're going to put EVERYTHING on hold and just enjoy each other for a week! Custom Dread Kits needed before the 16th MUST BE PLACED IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. I'm booked up through the third week of August already, so if you need a set soon get on it!
Also, Etsy is celebrating it's Christmas In July event, and our darling little shop is participating by offering FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE on specific orders placed before July 25th. Just browse our listings to find out which items are eligible!

Then of course, there is some news on the even you've all been waiting for:

THE IMP AND PETAL DREAD GIVEAWAY!!

We're getting close! You guys have done an awesome job of promoting for us, but we're not there yet. We still need 75 blog followers OR 43 Facebook fans to reach our goal, and we're counting on you to get us there.

As soon as our numbers reach our goal, details on how to officially enter will be released, but for now there are still a few ways to get your name in the pot; FOR FREE!

1. Fan us on Facebook.
2. Invite friends that you think might have an interest in crazy hair.
3. Send a list of who you've invited to ImpAndPetal@live.com

For each person you invite that likes us, we'll put ONE entry in the jar with YOUR name on it!

There will be other ways to enter once we reach our goals, so keep reading!

Happy July, everyone!

Imp And Petalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04510913132257737061noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4563994614081707154.post-17369473981577031322010-07-17T10:00:00.001-07:002010-07-17T10:04:28.272-07:00Imp And Petal Dread Raffle!!

Had your eye on an Imp and Petal dread kit for a while, but can't quite manage to part with needed cashola? This was the first of a huge batch of falls Petal recently made, and we wanted to test out their hold-ability and such. Who better to take these babies for a ride than a couple of girls right around fairy-princess age? Tutus also by Imp And Petal, though looking back on these pictures it seems the design needs a little work.

Photography as usual by Caitlin Siobhan of Medford Oregon, her skills and vision continuously shock and awe me. If you're in the area we highly recommend contacting her for a session.

Falls were made of 100% merino wool, hand dyed by Petal using a variety of food-grade dyes.Imp And Petalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04510913132257737061noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4563994614081707154.post-35821006754419651742010-06-21T22:59:00.000-07:002010-09-03T22:41:24.623-07:00
Imp & Petal dread kit giveaway!

Had your eye on an Imp and Petal dread kit for a while, but can't quite manage to part with needed cashola? Sharon's work pulls from that classic theory of contrast, the simple light vs. dark of a black ink sketch on a clean white canvas. It's fantastic!

Her biggest claim to fame is her printed greeting cards. These are lovely, because they make it possible to send someone special a true work of art for the reasonable price of $3.00, as well as the option of filling the blank interior with messages of love.

Here's what the artist had to say when we asked her a few questions:

1. Who's idea was it to start selling on Etsy?
Someone I met at a craft show in downtown Seattle, Etsy seller kneehighsnpigtail), who soon became a friend of mine told me about Etsy. I asked her how well she did on Etsy, and to my surprise, she does quite well. I became very excited about the website and decided I'd try to sell my work on there. I don't make much more than lunch money on Etsy, but it's fun regardless.

2. What are some of your goals for your shop?
Goals for my shop include fusing some new and different art pieces into it. I've recently added some new mixed media cards that were really fun to make. I also do several other arts and crafts on the side. I'm not sure yet whether I want to open a second shop for all my do-dads, or just mix them in my current shop.

3. What inspires you?
There are several things that inspire me, or rather push me to continuously produce more works of art. Inspirations for my subject matter comes from the beautiful scenery of Washington, where I live my little life. I also get inspiration from magazines, picture books, the TV of all places lol. What presses me to continue drawing is the fact that I immerse myself into it. When I'm stressed at work, coming home to draw takes so much of that stress away. I can just absorb myself into my work. I literally find myself humming after I get into my artwork (totally a knee-jerk reaction).

4. What do you thinks has been the biggest challenge with starting a business online?
The biggest challenge for me starting my business online is the work that goes into posting just one listing! My goodness. First you take a photo of your work. Then you upload it to the computer. Then you edit the photos to reduce blurriness, and adjust your contrast, and edit your pixel size. After that you go through the steps of listing your item, adding tags and descriptions. Finally, after all of that, your $3 card is posted. Can you say "WOW"?

5. Top 5 Favorite Etsy shops?
Kneehighsnpigtails who was there to get me going and show me the ropes.
Artflair is a favorite shop of mine as well. Artflair has very similar artwork to mine, but unique in its own way as well.
Murwati holds a special place in my heart. She has great little hand made purses and is such a fun person to chat with.
Mamamonkey has a wonderful shop full of baby onesies. She is someone I met in chat and found out lived just down the street from me. We ended up going to the same art show a little later on. And my final pick would have to be...
OakHillDesigns. I've never chatted with this seller, but recently ordered a stamped metal keychain that was unbelievably perfect! It will be a birthday gift for my husband this next month. He is going to love it.

6. Anything else you'd like to add?
Overall, Etsy has been a fun showcase for my work. I enjoy being able to log in, go to the chatroom and be able to talk about whatever is on my mind. Most of the people have been so helpful and fun. I've found some really good deals on Etsy, and some great craftsmanship. My wedding jewelry I had made by and Etsy seller, and my bridesmaids still wear their gifts very often. I do hope sales pick up a bit more for my shop, but I don't complain. I'm so excited when I get to mail my work to Canada, or even far places of the US. I love knowing my art is all over the place. I am currently 23. My next goal is to go to school for helicopter pilot training. My dad loves the idea and told me just last night that when I own my own helicopter, I should put huge graphic decals of my art on my chopper. I am totally all for his idea.

Thanks so much for featuring me and getting to know a little more about the girl behind the art. Please continue to visit my shop to explore all the new things I'm always creating.

-Sharon @ ArtworkSW.Etsy.com

Thank YOU, Sharon!Imp And Petalhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04510913132257737061noreply@blogger.com0
